Town of Newmarket Backflow Prevention Program
According to The Town of Newmarket’s website, a new mandatory Backflow Prevention By-law was enacted on May 27, 2019, applicable to all industrial, commercial, institutional, and multi-residential properties.
The objective of this by-law is to maintain the safety and quality of drinking water in the Town of Newmarket by minimizing the risk of backflow into the public water system.
Feel free to contact us at any time if you have questions about your property’s compliance with this by-law.

Property Owner’s Responsibility
The forthcoming by-law mandates that owners of industrial, commercial, institutional, and multi-residential properties must:
- Engage a certified company to conduct a thorough cross-connection survey of their water systems, evaluating contamination risks, and submit the findings to the Town.
- Contract a qualified company to install and verify the functionality of backflow prevention devices.
- Consistently submit test reports to the Town of Newmarket as per requirements.
